Welcome to Gosu’s Advanced Fishing guide! This guide will cover everything the wiki page on fishing hasn’t. If you haven’t started fishing yet, I suggest getting familiar with the basics here: http://piratesonline.wikia.com/wiki/Fishing This guide is for you if you want: Tons of gold, tons of rep, rare/famed knives/dolls/swords. For players looking to buy warships, this is one of the most if not THE quickest way to farm gold for that. You can earn a healthy dose of rep too so you won't miss out on leveling notoriety. Some fish even drop rare and famed loot for you to use or sell for more gold. I will divide this guide into 3 parts: Novice, Journeyman, and Master. Leveling fishing from 1-20 will only take 3 to 8 days depending on how much time you’re willing to dedicate to it. Novice: Do not waste your time on yellow tangs and the other blue fish. Just catch hatchet fish and groupers off the docks. At this point you’re not raking in much money so don’t spend it on a boat quite yet. Although if someone already paid for it and crews up with you, catch the Anthias fish.

You always want to aim for the fish that awards the highest rep. This stage is easy since all you have to do is cast your line and fish won’t steal your lures if they bite the bait. If you don’t find any hatchet fish/groupers in the spot you’re fishing in, exit fishing and try again at the same basket. By level 4 you should have the stall lure/pull fish abilities. Pull fish helps save time when fishing but stall lure isn't too important now since novie fish don’t require lure This will reset the fish and almost always respawns the right ones. Once you hit level 5, pay the 1000g for the journeyman rod. Journeyman: Here’s where some gold starts coming in. Make sure you stock up on lures before going out on a boat. The fishing boat is immune to damage so don’t worry if you aggro a few ships out at sea. At this point your line will fall deeper into the water and you’ll find more fish to catch. The fish you want are: Barracuda, Wolfish, Chimera, Dragonfish. The fish with asterisks require a fishing boat. This is where fish start to steal lures. If a fish grabs onto your line, and you don't click it, it will swim away with your lure. Rapidly click your mouse if you see a yellow question mark around fish you don’t want like Tuna so they don't take your line.

If one manages to bite your lure, do not reel it in. Simply exit fishing and re-cast your line and look for a better fish. You lure will be saved as well as your time. Your heal line ability should only be used if your reel bar sinks to orange. You will rarely find a chimera on the docks if you choose to skip the boat so I highly stress you save your gold to get a boat. At this point you’ll be making enough gold that it won’t matter too much if you crash and lose your fishing boat. The priority of fish go in this order: Dragonfish>Chimera>Wolfish=Barracuda. Again, don’t bother with the other fish, they don’t award enough rep to be worth the time catching them. Be sure you save as much gold as possible so you can buy the master rod at level 15. Master: Here’s where the real rewards start swimming in (k ill stop now lol). Buy the master rod from any fishing npc on the docks in tortuga/port royal/padres del fuego and cast your line. Do not worry about rushing to level 20. Legendary fish do not award a decent amount of gold or rep for the amount of time you spend catching them. Your two main targets when you reach this level are goblin sharks and sand tiger sharks. Sand tiger sharks are your gold sinks (210-310g) and goblin sharks are your reputation sinks (220 rep). If you are fishing either for gold or rep and you spot a mega mouth, lump fish, or angler, catch it first since they award a ton of rep and are uncommon. Fish at this level are SUPER aggressive so be sure you stock up on lures.

At this point you’ll be making so much gold that fishing boats will be chump change to you. Again, if you do not find any of the sharks you are looking for, reset the fish area by exiting and using the same basket. Sailing your boat to a different area yields the same results to don’t waste your time doing it. Once mastered your fishing should look like this: Cast, sink line ability, ocean eye, maybe more sink line, fish bites, pull fish, tug line, heal, reel. You won’t end up using stall lure very often but it is handy when you need it. You will be jiggling your line a lot to avoid useless fish so make sure you stall your lure when it's lined up with the fish you want so it doesn’t scare away. Understand that your only movements are: Left, up, or down. You cannot move your line to the right so if the fish you want swims past your line to the right, re-cast and try again. By this point you will get a feel for when the fish start to fight and you will be timing your pull fish abilities at the right moments. Once you get used to it, fishing can net you 15k gold and 5k rep per hour. Happy angling!
